The proof is in the pictures - Capt. Greg
Bowdish with a frog-eating redfish.

Originally
concieved as a topwater bait designed for pulling big largemouth
bass from heavy cover, the Zoom Horny Toad also excels in many
saltwater situations like grassflats and mangroves. You may
feel a bit strange throwing a "frog" to a rolling
tarpon or tailing redfish, but the truth is that this funny
little softplastic makes a tantalizing ruckus on the surface
of the water that could easily be mistaken for a fleeing baitfish
or swimming crab. Whatever the case it is an excellent topwater
bait and should be part of every pro redfish angler's arsenal
of lures. Not only does it function as a topwater bait, but
the Horny Toad will sink when left still making it a perfect
soft plastic crab imitation - deadly on tailing reds! The weight
of this plastic frog also makes it easier to cast deep in the
mangroves than conventional jerkbaits, while still retaining
the "weedlessness" of these popular lures. |

Zoom Horny Toads come in a variety of colors
that are very effective in saltwater. There is also a special
hook made exclusively for the Horny Toad, but any standard
worm hook will work fine. For bigger game fish such as tarpon
and cobia, we strongly suggest using a Gamakatsu Superline
5/0 and rigging the hook "between the legs" rather
than the standard Texas rig. You can learn more about fishing
and rigging the Horny Toad in saltwater, by checking out the

A special note to those who
like to paddlefish:
Fishing out of a kayak or canoe
with a topwater plug can sometimes get pretty scary when it
comes time to land the fish. Having a flailing fish with two
treble hooks in his face in close proximity to your lap is
not fun. The Zoom Horny Toad is a great way to fish topwater
for paddlefishers who don't like the dangers associated with
multiple treble hooks. It is also a lot easier on the fish!
Happy Froggin'!
